The other reason is that while (and, perhaps, because) GNU ddrescue is extraordinarily powerful, it can be quite confusing to use. I wrote this guide so you can avoid making some of the mistakes I've made. I'm simply fortunate that the data I lost wasn't important, but if a GUI like this had existed when I first used ddrescue, I could have avoided making some of those mistakes. Some of them have simply wasted a bit of time, but some of them have meant I've lost data. That might sound quite negative, but in truth it's exactly why I wrote DDRescue-GUI I've made a fair few mistakes when doing data recovery. Firstly, data recovery is a complex and delicate subject, and even when using tools as powerful as GNU ddrescue, things can go wrong, especially if you're not experienced. Why read this document? Well, for a lot of reasons. This document will teach you how to use both GNU ddrescue and DDRescue-GUI, and serves as a general-purpose troubleshooting reference. GNU ddrescue is a command-line (text-only) program, so using this interface with it brings you all of the power ddrescue has to offer, combined with the ease of use of a simple, cross-platform GUI. Because of this, it is a little bit more expensive than First Class Mail. Internationally, Priority Mail International gets another advantage since it typically cuts shipping time down significantly. Generally, USPS Priority Mail takes 1-3 business days to reach its final destination. The maximum dimensions are 108” in combined length and girth (the length of the longest side, plus the distance around the thickest part of the package). Priority Mail is a a service that lets you send parcels weighing less than 70 lbs domestically. USPS Priority Mail is the USPS’s class of mail that is their top priority to ship out. Try shipping in a poly mailer to cut down additional costs. Shirts, especially t-shirts are a good candidate to ship with First Class Mail. Fourth Class Mail: Media Mail (CDs, vinyl records, DVDs, books, bound print media consisting of 8 or more pages.). Third Class Mail: Marketing mail, flyers, mailers, etc.Second Class Mail: periodicals, magazines, newspapers that are printed more than 4 times a year.First Class Mail gets its name because is considered the top tier of mailed letters in comparison to: First Class Mail is a class of mail used to ship letters, thick envelopes, padded envelopes, and lightweight packages. In the world of USPS, that would Priority Mail Express. Why is it Called First Class Mail?įirst Class Mail doesn’t mean the same as a first class flight. Letters are a little faster since they sort more quickly. Delivery usually takes 2–5 business days for parcels to reach their final destination. The maximum allowable size for parcels are dimensions of 22″ x 18″ x 15″. USPS First Class Mail is an economical way to ship parcels, thick envelopes, and envelopes weighing under 16 oz. We’ll go over a few situations where one service may win over the others. There are instances when one of these services will win over the other. For instance, the USPS has recently slowed First Class Mail. However, there are instances when the choice is not so black and white. If a parcel weighs less than 16 ounces, it makes the most sense to use First Class Mail. Generally, the deciding factor in making a decision in First Class vs Priority Mail comes down to weight. The two most common USPS services a merchant uses to ship with are First Class and Priority Mail. The plus side of this method is that, even if you have no Wi-Fi, pCloud Drive will remember your changes and sync them when Internet get back. Sync allows you to you to choose folders from your PC and have them available on all devices. There’s one additional perk though – it will be available offline as well. Back to our example, if your presentation is saved locally, and you have synced it with pCloud Drive you can still have it on all your devices. We took the concept of always having your files with you, one step further. However, any file that you have locally on your PC, for example, wouldn’t be synced unless you move it directly. That’s because, technically, your content’s in the same place – in the cloud. Usually, if you have a cloud storage app on your phone and PC, you would find that you have the same files on both apps. One of the things that make pCloud convenient is that your files can be in your bag, whenever you need them. You can either:Ī: Wait to arrive in your hotel room and finish your presentation there (that is, if you have the time)ī: Sync the file you are working on and make the final changes on board with pCloud. However, since you’re about to catch a flight, Wi-fi is one of your major problems. Imagine you’re on a business trip and you have to make some quick changes to the presentation you were working on a while ago. Today we talk about the mystery behind Sync in pCloud Drive and how it makes your files available for offline work. Luckily, if you happen to be in a similar situation, where you have to finish a report, blog post or presentation on the go, we have a pretty good solution. Just like any other interruption, failing Internet connection can hinder our productivity and limit our access to resources. Especially when we’ve already opened our laptop from the nearby café or park. Yet, it’s not always the case that we have a Wi-Fi connection to back our plans for the day. It’s a challenge not to peak into your inbox, or do a little bit of work the night before and optimize your schedule for the next day. We all do that, whether we’re going on vacation, on a business trip or just commuting back home. In 2005 or so I was migrating to new computer when I found a directory of photos I forgot to back up. Will be interested to see how it goes though! Or alternately just stick to offering a flat out better client with the iMessage bit being Mac-only. Obviously you've probably thought this all through, but seems like just requiring an old cheap Mac or old jb'd idevice and thus avoiding Apple might be an easier path. Also seems like they might actually be motivated to respond rather than ignore it since it'd actually be directly leeching their infra if it will work on PCs/Android without a Mac/iDevice purchase in the equation (unlike hackintoshes for example, where whatever debate there is to be had about probably very low "lost sales" it doesn't actually cost them anything). If it turns into a cat-and-mouse fight it seems like they're always going to have the eternal upper hand, which in turn seems like it'd make for a subpar user experience (ie., breaks randomly which for an instant messaging service would be pretty bad). Out of curiosity, do really think that's realistic, or even desirable long term? iMessage is ultimately an Apple service that runs heavily on Apple's infrastructure, and is directly subsidized by sales of their highly vertically integrated hardware platforms. > We plan to make it work without the catch. Maybe they have some long term plans to refactor it ala iTunes but yeesh. With the demise of iTunes, it now feels like iMessages is probably one of the most crufty-but-heavily-utilized user facing pieces of software Apple puts out. I'm always happy to see new client-side software for communication protocols written that aims to improve upon built-in! And iMessages in particular could certainly use it. Unfortunately, Apple's policies won't allow an app like Chatology on the Mac App Store.Looks like a super cool project. It will not available from the Mac App Store. Please note that Chatology for Mac will only be available from the Flexibits Store. Likewise, it's a good choice for users who are not satisfied with the search feature in Messages.Ĭhatology for Mac is available now for US$19.99 from the Flexibits Store. Those who have lots of conversations in chat, especially those that might include desirable reference information, will do well to install Chatology. It's like launching über-search mode.įinally, you can export any conversation as a plain text file, use Quick Look to view images and delete a chat log, all from the app. When enabled, you'll be brought right to Chatology when you hit Command-F in Messages. There's a preference to enable Messages integration. Simply type in the term you're after and there it is. It was crazy easy to find them: I just pulled up the conversation, clicked "images" and there it was. While testing this app, I was able to find two images I remembered seeing in chat but failed to drag out. Once you've selected a particular history to scour, you can view the full conversation, just images or just links. You can refine your history by viewing logs from today, within the last seven days, the last 30 or within the last year. You'll also see the conversation's start time and duration. Click any name in the leftmost column to see your full history with that person in the center column, sorted by date. Conversations, images and links are a mere click away.įinally, you can opt to see your conversations as balloons or boxes (I prefer balloons).Ĭhatology finds the chat logs stored on your Mac at launch and displays each conversation according to the person on the other end. Click any name on the right to view the associated chat logs in clear, legible text. Again, it will be super familiar to most Mac owners, so you'll be up and running in no time. LooksĬhatology is similar to iTunes, iPhoto and others as it has a list on the left and related details on the right. Its looks will make it familiar to just about anyone who's used a Mac within the last ten years and and its integration with Messages is just lovely. Flexibits has released Chatology for Mac (US$19.99), which lets you search your Messages chat history with great ease and success. This is a single direct link of Airport Madness 3D Full v1.607. Part of what makes Airport Madness fun is the high speed at which things happen. Aircraft actually raise their nose during the takeoff rotation and during the landing flare, just like they do in real life. We are using real earth data for mountains and surrounding landscape, as seen in the images, but our airports were built by us from scratch.Īircraft flight characteristics are highly realistic. While Airport Madness 3D offers a decent level of realism, we are mainly trying to make this game fun. In this version, we include two radar screens instead of just one: A radar screen for airborne traffic and one for ground traffic.įor seven years, we’ve been telling game players that Airport Madness is a game, not a simulation. There is a choice of four different view perspectives: tower view, runway view, sky view, and pilot view. Although this game is visually quite different, it has the very same game play mechanic as previous versions. Each airport offers two separate traffic patterns. This edition offers six airports that include the Vancouver Harbour float plane base, Jamaica, Toronto Island, LaGuardia, Castlegar and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan. A large resolution, nasty weather plus emergencies make Airport Madness 3 a must-have. You must strategically give takeoff and landing clearances to avoid midair collisions between commercial jets while moving them as fast as you can with no delays. That would allow viewing at right angles similar to the articulating LCD.RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. Too bad the T3i pentaprism can’t be removed and a knife edge focusing screen inserted with magnifying eyepiece as in the old Nikon F bodies. This would of be used for the case where there are no bright stars in the vicinity where liveview might not be sensitive enough. So insert the knifeedge eyepiece then focus, then insert the Camera body. I was also thinking of making a knife edge focusing eyepiece parafocal with the T3i body. I will also be using the T3i for daytime shots of the sun through a 5” Mak-Cass with Baader filter and the articulating LCD screen should come in handy for those high zenith sun shots. One of the reasons for getting the T3i was the use of liveview for focusing and the articulating LCD screen that makes things high in the sky easier to see when used on my Mak-cass or C14. There are some little secrets you need to know to use Live View for focusing an astrophoto. (BTW, BackyardEOS running looped preview exposures is functionally the same as Nebulosity's "Frame and Focus" mode, and the newest pre-release Nebulosity versions support live-view, so you can use either program really, but the above two methods are what I have found to be the easiest ways to get accurate focus) Go back to Frame and Focus mode to fine-tune object framing.īoth these methods work well, but the Bahtinov method works faster and is reliably accurate. Focus using the two metrics provided by Fine Focus. Without Bahtinov mask: Nebulosity2, use Frame and Focus mode to rough-center desired object, switch to Fine Focus mode using a medium brightness star (not saturated, if brightness starts at or gets to 65535 your star is too bright). To frame slew to object and loop 1s - 10s preview exposures while adjusting the mount. Center star and focus via bahtinov pattern. With a Bahtinov mask and bright star, BackyardEOS in zoomed Live-View mode. In that case the Nebulosity Fine Focus method works well.įor myself this is the order of preference for focus and framing when using my 1000D If you do *not* have a Bahtinov mask then live-view, even with BackyardEOS's FWHM measure, is hard to get. You then lock down the focus (if you can) and slew to your actual target, from there you can take short 1s, 2s, 10s, 30s exposures (whatever is needed) to get your target framed up correctly. If you have a Bahtinov mask for your telescope or camera lens you can point your telescope at one of those bright stars and very quickly get an accurate focus. However, this does not mean live-view is not useful. This is because in order to produce a "live" video view it is forced to take a series of short exposures, and you can simply only see so much with 1/30th or 1/15th second exposures! Another thing to keep in mind that if your focus is far out even with a very bright star live-view will not see anything - you need to be at least close-ish to focus for the star to show up. I use Nebulosity 2's frame and focus because it takes actual photos and I review each one as the next one is shot in order to get my focus or focus on a faint object.Īm I doing something wrong? I has the ISO cranked on LiveView, but even the brightest star is invisible.Īs Tom already pointed out live-view can see only a few of the brightest stars in the sky. I've used EOS Utility and I've used Backyard EOS's frame and focus through LiveView on my PC but I can never see anything. I have tried using LiveView with my T1i and 7D but I can't see anything to focus on. Since it is not, we have to work with what is provided to It were a dedicated astro camera, I could see the point, I suspect other people prefer itĪs well, which is why they make it that way.
